{"id":23554,"date":"2020-12-16T17:00:45","date_gmt":"2020-12-16T16:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jacobsfoundation.org\/?p=23554"},"modified":"2023-11-03T15:07:47","modified_gmt":"2023-11-03T14:07:47","slug":"10-questions-with-laura-brown-ceo-of-peas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jacobsfoundation.org\/10-questions-with-laura-brown-ceo-of-peas\/","title":{"rendered":"Get to know the CEO of PEAS."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Which personal achievement would you most like to be remembered for?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Leading PEAS, an organization that expands educational opportunities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Which life lesson would you like to share?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not possible to do everything perfectly, so focus time and energy on the most important tasks, and don&#8217;t worry too much about the rest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who is your hero?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Greta Thunberg.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What hobbies do you pursue and what have they taught you?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the lockdown, I&#8217;ve started gardening which has reminded me of the importance of spending time outside.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Which book are you currently reading?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fiction: The Bee Keeper of Aleppo<br \/>\nNon-fiction: Teachers Versus Tech<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who or what has helped you the most on your professional journey?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I belong to a group of young female leaders in the education sector. These women are a constant source of support, advice and inspiration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What gets you out of bed every morning?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My 2-year-old son!<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you were able to teach all children just one skill, which skill would it be?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Not enough children can read and count properly. I&#8217;d start there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is there a positive work-related experience coming from the pandemic?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The pandemic caused schools to close. At PEAS we had to do our best and most creative work to keep our students safe and learning. I have enjoyed the period of innovation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What will you do with the prize money from the Jacobs Foundation?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>PEAS will use the prize money to get more girls and boys into secondary school.
